You should submit your assessment answers within the
Assessment 2 (Unseen Question) Submission Area on Blackboard
Assessment task details and instructions
Select one of the two portfolio options from below, then produce a report of 3,000 words (+/- 10% and not including the reference list at the end) which addresses the points listed. Your report should include links to the relevant corporate information, as well as incorporating theory and evidence.
Support will be given during the seminars as to how to select a relevant company.
Portfolio, Option 1 International Careers (total marks = 100)
Discuss how individuals in general might construct an international career in a fast-changing and global labour market (30 marks)
Select an international company and discuss how they address career development, including links and examples from that company (30 marks)
Critique the approach that company takes (advantages and disadvantages, potential learning for other companies etc) (30 marks).
10 marks are available for a well-structured and correctly referenced report.
Portfolio, Option 2 Pay & Reward (total marks = 100)
Consider what is meant by fair pay for international companies operating in a variety of countries (30 marks)
Select an international company and discuss its approach to pay, including links and examples from that company (30 marks)
Critique the approach the company takes (advantages, disadvantages potential learning for other organisations) (30 marks)
10 marks are available for a well-structed and correctly referenced report.

Assessed intended learning outcomes
On successful completion of this assessment, you will be able to:
1. Evaluate, critique and discuss the variety of cultural norms, behaviours and paradigms in organisation design and development and their value and contribution to organisational life from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
2. Apply theoretical ideas to help solve problems around organisational design and development including the reference to the way that processes and systems maintain those structures.
3. Understand and critically evaluate the methods and procedures of organisational development which support organisational design and realignment strategies.
4. Review research and critically evaluate major debates related to HRM and HRD in organisations in a national and global context including the way that organisational HRM and HRD strategies are shaped by and developed in response to internal and external environmental factors by a variety of factors including through government policy.
5. With reference to demographic, social and technological trends, demonstrate a sound understanding of globalised HRM and HRD policy and practice and the issues facing international HR managers in a global business environment including the critical evaluation of how organisational leaders and the HR function respond to these pressures.
6. Work independently and with others in analysing and presenting solutions to organisational design and development problems;
7. Communicate effectively through a variety of media to different audiences.
8. Evaluate, critique and present research findings.
Module Aims 1. Evaluate the changing contexts of organisations in a global context.
2. Review complex decision-making processes regarding organisational design and structure.
3. Equip students with the necessary skills to apply theoretical concepts around organisation design and development in practical situations.
4. Analyse critically debates around the convergence or divergence of HR policy and practice in a global context.
5. Prepare students for the roles of HR manager in an international context

You should look at the rubric supplied with the assessment brief to find out what we are specifically looking at during the assessment, and the marking criteria.
In Year Retrieval Scheme
Your assessment is not eligible for in year retrieval.
Reassessment
If you fail your assessment, or have an accepted PMC for non-submission
You will be contacted by the PG admin team with details of re-submission. This will not be until after the results for the module have been presented and approved at a module board.
This is usually around 6-8 weeks after your submission date.
If you need to be reassessed, the reassessment task will be the same as the original task.
